Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a record £11m in earnings.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
