Around Twelve historical artefacts were formally restored to Ethiopia following remaining by a family in Germany for more than 100 years.

These items, first collected in the 1920's by Germany's then-envoy to Ethiopia a German envoy and his spouse his partner, were delivered on midweek to the research center at the university in Addis Ababa.

The collection contained royal crowns, protective shields and canvases, all regarded as historically important in the country.

"These treasures still represent a symbol of the enduring and friendly connection between the German nation and the Ethiopian people," remarked Germany's envoy, Germany's representative to the East African country.

Professor a professor, whose father was born during the family's service in Ethiopia, delivered the artefacts at a gathering witnessed by Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa.

He explained that the family's aim to give back the artefacts was to "share their splendor with the people and maintain the heritage and history tied to my father's birth."

The objects were either considered donations or acquisitions, according to the family.

"We want to express gratitude to the Weiss relatives for concretely showing their deep love for Ethiopia by carefully maintaining these treasures and vitally ensuring their homecoming to their legitimate country," said the official.

She continued that the pieces would soon be made accessible to the people for investigation and educational purposes, describing the move a milestone in protecting Ethiopia's historical legacy.

"Initiatives persist to bring back old artifacts that are found in the custody of individuals and organizations around the planet," she stated.

In the era of imperial control in Africa, numerous of traditional objects were looted.

This call by the continent's states for the return of taken objects has been responded to by certain positive outcomes in lately - even if some objects are merely on short-term display.

Back in 2022, Germany was the first nation to return a selection of the famous Benin artifacts to the West African nation in an attempt to deal with its "complex colonial history."
