The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the makers of acetaminophen, alleging the firms concealed potential risks that the pain reliever posed to children's neurological development.

The lawsuit follows a month after Former President Trump promoted an unsubstantiated connection between using Tylenol - also known as paracetamol - during pregnancy and autism in offspring.

The attorney general is filing suit against the pharmaceutical giant, which once produced the medication, the only pain reliever recommended for expectant mothers, and the current manufacturer, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he claimed they "misled consumers by making money from discomfort and marketing drugs ignoring the dangers."

The manufacturer states there is no credible evidence connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These companies lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets," the attorney general, a Republican, stated.

The company commented that it was "deeply concerned by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of paracetamol and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its website, the company also mentioned it had "consistently assessed the relevant science and there is no credible data that indicates a proven link between taking acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations acting on behalf of doctors and healthcare providers agree.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has declared acetaminophen - the main ingredient in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for pregnant women to address discomfort and fever, which can present serious health risks if left untreated.

"In over twenty years of studies on the use of paracetamol in pregnancy, no reliable research has conclusively proven that the consumption of paracetamol in any period of pregnancy causes brain development issues in young ones," the group commented.

This legal action references current declarations from the former administration in asserting the drug is reportedly hazardous.

Last month, the former president generated worry from medical authorities when he advised women during pregnancy to "resist strongly" not to use acetaminophen when ill.

Federal regulators then issued a notice that medical professionals should consider limiting the consumption of acetaminophen, while also declaring that "a proven link" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in children has not been proven.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who supervises the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in spring to initiate "comprehensive study program" that would establish the source of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But experts warned that identifying a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the result of a complicated interplay of inherited and surrounding conditions - would not be simple.

Autism spectrum disorder is a form of enduring cognitive variation and condition that influences how persons experience and relate to the environment, and is recognized using physician assessments.

In his court filing, Paxton - aligned with the former president who is seeking the Senate - asserts Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "deliberately disregarded and tried to quiet the research" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action seeks to make the firms "destroy any marketing or advertising" that asserts Tylenol is secure for pregnant women.

This legal action echoes the grievances of a group of guardians of children with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in recently.

The court rejected the lawsuit, declaring research from the plaintiffs' authorities was not conclusive.
