Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Chief Executive Exits Following Pivot Into Fried Chicken.

The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the UK might have hit pizza saturation while broadening the franchise into fried chicken has been replaced after conflicts with its directors.

Executive Transition

The former CEO is leaving after a brief tenure in leadership, and will be replaced on an acting basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's searches for a long-term chief.

Rennie, who served at the company for a substantial period, had aimed to shift Britain's leading pizza food delivery firm towards fried chicken, stating recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He said chicken was the most rapidly expanding protein in the globe.

Governance Tensions

Reports indicate that there was tension between the CEO and the governance team over his approach and management style, although the company's release said he was departing “as a joint decision”.

Recent Brand Introduction

In September, the chain launched its poultry offering – which the former chief called a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is testing it in select stores in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.

While the firm is still planning to expand it across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as scheduled, it views chicken products as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Leadership Comment

Bull, the Domino's chair, stated: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and value creation in our primary operations. We are prioritizing identifying the right chief executive to oversee the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”

Industry Difficulties

Earlier this month, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said transactions declined by one and a half percent in the Q3. In the summer, it warned that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it blamed reduced spending in the period before the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for weaker-than-expected sales and a significant fall in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut disclosed the closure of 68 restaurants a month ago, after the firm behind its outlets entered insolvency.

Wellness Initiatives

Trying to keep up with consumer trends towards better nutrition, Domino's has introduced reduced-calorie products, such as its thin-crust line of bakes below 400 kcal as well as plant-based and allergy-friendly options. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a personal has 909 calories.

Acting Management

Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and had a background at the gaming group a well-known operator. It is believed that she does not want to occupy the CEO position long-term.

Frampton stated: “The company has a several active growth and efficiency programs that we will be focused on carrying out at speed.”

Frampton noted these included ongoing development on the organization's supply chain and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

The pizza chain is also in need of a full-time chief financial officer until the spring, when Andrea starts from the beverage producer C&C Group. Until then, Snow acts as temporary CFO.
