Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

• For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
