Dive Into this Reimagined Legendary Journey: This Free Trial for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Lands Soon.

Fans anticipating the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait too much longer. A free-to-play trial experience will go live on January 7th, providing a generous look into the game's initial chapters. Importantly, all save data earned within this demo will be able to be carried over directly into the complete game upon its February debut.

More Than a Straightforward Remake: A Thorough Reimagining

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a from-scratch reinterpretation of the landmark year 2000 RPG, originally titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a notable departure from recent Dragon Quest re-releases, such as the previously released HD-2D iterations, this reimagining adopts a charming three-dimensional aesthetic. Locales appear to look like intricate miniature worlds, with characters having a delightful stylized design.

"Even with the 3DS port, the main quest was remained exceptionally long. Consequently, the team reached a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for today's audiences."

Significant Mechanical Enhancements & Modernizations

Square Enix have implemented numerous modernizations to update the classic experience. Among these are:

  • Quick Overworld Encounters: Similar to contemporary RPGs, low-level monsters can now be dispatched instantly on the field without initiating a separate turn-based combat screen.
  • Variable Battle Pace: Players can accelerate combat animations to rapidly get past less challenging encounters.
  • Expanded Job System: One completely new job class has been added for this remake. Additionally, party members now have the option to master a secondary job, significantly expanding customization possibilities.

These changes are aimed at mitigate one of the 2000 game's most noted points of feedback: its considerable playtime. That original main quest could easily require more than 100 hours to see through. This new edition was specifically designed to enhance pacing and cut down on perceived repetition.
