Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
